Hot Chick of the Week: Lady Michelle Flandez

Lady Michelle Flandez was born and raised on the island of Baybay Leyte Philippines. Lady is a graduate of the University of San Carlos with a major in painting. She excels in oil, pastels, and watercolor. Many of her paintings have been admired by fellow classmates, mentors and colleagues.

Lady describes herself as an idealist although she says that she once was indecisive about life. Yet, now she is now more sure spoken about her view of the world and has combined that view with a bit of irony like a true artist. Today, she has developed a passion for life and lives each moment to the fullest. Lady seems to have inherited the strengths of her parents – her father, a dedicated teacher and artist, and her mother who is a hardworking Certified Public Accountant. Living on the edge, but with a deep social conscience, Lady is Michael’s hot pick of the week for being on the “cutting edge” of Filipino society.

Lady Michelle has a cute face and an innocence about her. But her looks are only a mask for a life filled with many struggles. On the surface, she seems to be an independent woman who supports herself as a call center agent. But, as a struggling artist, her heart has embraced the pain of loneliness and the uncertainty of making a living as a painter. She has developed a vision that seeks out the pain of the world around her, which she then captures on canvas.

Revise:  Her painting, “The Call Center(?)” is a typical example of her art. Although many would consider a job at a call center to be an ideal one, her painting brings forth the dehumanizing aspects of being “plugged” into the technology of today’s global economy. Does the cost of progress imply the death of the human soul and spirit? This is the type of question that her art probes into.

Despite her struggle, she is immersed in life, and takes in all of the joy and sorrow that it brings. She aspires to be able to experience, capture and portray the ups and downs of life, love, and her vision of reality. Lady is one of the many youth of the Philippines with a vision, spirit and drive to change the world for the better.

She has an enchanting smile, but the tidal wave of emotions and the strength of character that lies beneath her petite exterior makes her Michael’s pick as the Hot Chick of the week. This is the kind of heart that will take this country forward into a new tomorrow. She may stumble and she may fall, but her spirit will carry her on and help shape the Philippines of tomorrow.
